Deadline extended to apply for commission openings

The deadline for Redlands residents interested in serving on the Human Relations Commission, Traffic and Parking Commission or the Airport Advisory Board has been extended. In addition, the City Council is seeking applicants for a position on the Cultural Arts Commission. Applications for any of the four positions are due by April 15.

The Cultural Arts Commission promotes public interest in arts, recommends new arts programs and sources of funding for those programs, assists the City Council by recommending policies to encourage, develop and support the arts in Redlands, and advises the City Council in the administration of the City’s “Art in Public Places” program. The Cultural Arts Commission meets bi-monthly on the second Monday of odd-numbered months at 4 p.m.

The Human Relations Commission was established to foster peaceful relations among persons of different races and national origins. This commission serves in an advisory capacity to the City Council and to aid the City in achieving better human relations by providing assistance to all persons or groups in promoting good will and better relations among all people. The Human Relations Commission meets on the second Monday of odd-numbered months at 6:30 p.m.

The Traffic and Parking Commission carries on educational activities in traffic matters, supervises the preparation and publication of traffic reports, receives complaints relating to traffic matters and recommends to the City Council ways and means of improving traffic conditions and the administration and enforcement of traffic regulations. This commission also advises the City Council on the development of adequate parking for commercial and retail uses, recommends policies to encourage, develop and support adequate parking within the City, recommends actions for the establishment of long-term parking plans for the City and, in particular, the Downtown Redlands Business Area, and advises the City Council in the administration of resources for the development of parking. The Commission may also assist other advisory groups such as the Planning Commission in matters relating to parking. The Traffic and Parking Commission meets bi-monthly on the fourth Thursday of odd-numbered months at 6 p.m.

The Airport Advisory Board acts in an advisory capacity to the City Council in all matters pertaining to the administration, operation, development, improvement and maintenance of the Redlands Municipal Airport. The Airport Advisory Board meets on the third Thursday of each month at 6 p.m.
