New fire safety awareness signs for trails, open space added

The City of Redlands Fire Department, Facilities and Community Services Department and Redlands Conservancy have partnered on a new initiative to promote fire safety awareness for residents and visitors enjoying the picturesque open spaces of our community.

City staff and Conservancy members collaborated on the design and installation of Fire Safety Awareness Signs at the trail entrances within the Live Oak Canyon and San Timoteo Canyon areas. The goal of these signs is to promote fire safety awareness as a shared responsibility while enjoying the trails and open spaces that make the Redlands community unique.

Keys to promoting fire safety while using the trails include being aware of conditions and secondary routes if prompt evacuations are necessary, staying hydrated while using the trails, as well as reporting any emergency conditions to 911.

Special recognition for this sign project goes out to Enzo Ruiz and Peter Flores from the City of Redlands Facilities and Community Services Department, as well as Sherli Leonard, executive director for the Redlands Conservancy.

The following are the current sign locations:

  • Cocomaricopa Alessandro Trail Entrance
  • Cocomaricopa San Timoteo Trail Entrance
  • Creekside East Trail Entrance
  • Creekside Mid-Point Trail Entrance
  • Canyon Drive
  • Oakmont Park
  • Live Oak Canyon – West
  • Live Oak Canyon – Center
  • Gateway Ranch

Additional sites, including areas in North Redlands, are being evaluated.
