The Planning Commission prepares a comprehensive long term general plan for the physical development of the City and makes recommendations to the City Council relating to the maintenance of the General Plan, zoning administration, environmental assessments, site plan and architectural review, subdivision planning, sign, parking and landscaping regulations, housing and historic preservation.

Preference will be given to applicants who have knowledge, training, and/or experience that are directly related to and will contribute meaningfully to the Planning Commission’s responsibilities. Relevant fields of knowledge, training, or experience include, but are not limited to, urban planning, architecture, civil engineering, landscape architecture, real estate, real estate development, community development, economic development, environmental policy, public policy, public administration, finance and business administration.

The Planning Commission meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 4:00 p.m.  Residents interested in applying for the non-salaried position on this commission may request application forms from the Office of the City Clerk, City Hall, 35 Cajon Street, Suite 4, or by phone 798-7510, or from the City’s website below.

Student Commission Opportunity

Deadline for filing applications is November 16, 2026

The City of Redlands is once again seeking students to serve on three of its advisory commissions.  These commissions serve in an advisory role to the City Council.  Students appointed to these commissions serve as full voting members.

Applications are being solicited from sophomore and junior class students attending high school in Redlands.  Students serve for one full calendar year with the first six months as a sophomore/junior in high school, through the summer and the last part of the year as a junior/senior.

The following commissions have student members, and their meeting times are:

• Human Relations Commission – 6:30 pm. Quarterly – March, June, September, and December
• Parks & Recreation Advisory Commission – 4:30 p.m. Quarterly – March, June, September, and December
• Traffic and Parking Commission – 6:00 p.m. Quarterly – February, May, August, and November
