Prickly Pears: romantic spirit of singing cowboys at Smiley Live!

Smiley Live! concert series will host the Prickly Pears at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, at the Contemporary Club, 173 S. Eureka St.

A musical duo based in Pioneertown, the historic 1940s Western movie set in the Mojave Desert founded by cowboy stars including Gene Autry and Roy Rogers, the Prickly Pears specialize in classic 1940s cowboy songs. With yodeling melodies, acoustic guitar, and close harmonies, they infuse timeless tales of the open range with a contemporary high-desert vibe. Named after the resilient, blooming prickly pear cacti of the Mojave landscape, the duo keeps the romantic spirit of the singing cowboys alive.
