Redlands designated as Fire Risk Reduction Community
The City of Redlands has been recognized by the California Board of Forestry and Fire Protection as a 2026 Fire Risk Reduction Community.
The designation recognizes the City’s commitment to implementing comprehensive wildfire planning, mitigation, and community resilience strategies that meet or exceed California’s standards for reducing wildfire risk. The designation became effective in July 2026 and represents another milestone in implementing the City’s Community Wildfire Protection Plan.
Led by the Redlands Fire Department, designation as a Fire Risk Reduction Community reflects years of collaboration among community stakeholders including City departments, CAL FIRE, and the Redlands Conservancy to strengthen wildfire preparedness.
With roughly 30 percent of Redlands located in fire hazard severity zones identified by the State, the City prioritizes wildfire preparedness and mitigation efforts. This includes leveraging advanced technology platforms for real-time situation awareness including the recent installation of a new ALERTCalifornia camera at the Redlands Municipal Airport for the northside of the City to complement the existing unit in the Helen Court area.
The benefits of the Fire Risk Reduction Community designation are further recognized in the California Insurance Code and require insurance companies to account for these verified community wildfire mitigation efforts when developing insurance rates. While individual premiums vary based on property-specific factors and insurer underwriting practices, the designation may provide additional opportunities for homeowners to benefit from communitywide wildfire risk reduction.
The City of Redlands remains committed to expanding wildfire preparedness, vegetation management and public education programs to help build a safer and more resilient community. Residents are encouraged to stay informed, maintain defensible space around their homes and participate in local preparedness programs.
